2020-2021 Schedule and Topics
Headways for Middle School Directors will be facilitated by Danielle Heard, NCGS Trustee and Head of School at Nashoba-Brooks School. All meetings will occur from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
Please note that NCGS is mindful of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and will ensure that discussion topics are timely and relevant.
Headways for Middle School Directors is open to those who hold the role of Director of Middle School, Head of Middle School; Junior High School Head, Senior Leadership for grades 4-8, etc.
October 20, 2020: Girls Online – Technology in the Classroom and Beyond
Topics to consider: integrating technology across the curriculum; providing effective PD; acceptable use policies; digital citizenship and online safety
November 17, 2020: Grading and Assessment
Topics to consider: bridging shift from lower school expectations/rubrics to those followed by upper school; assessing project-based/collaborative work; considering effects of assessment on health and wellness; communicating about the role of grades in middle school
January 19, 2021: Modeling and Teaching Leadership
Topics to consider: leadership curricula and programs; opportunities to teach/model leadership throughout the day, week, and year; role of older students; role of faculty; desired goals/outcomes; how to measure “success”
February 16, 2021: Advising Adolescent Girls
Topics to consider: advisory programs; schedule and structure for advisory time; desired goals/outcomes; key topics; suggested materials/resources/speakers
April 20, 2021: Marketing the Middle Years
Topics to consider: value proposition of all-girls middle school; competing in a market with different entry points (5th, 6th, 7th, 9th); relevant research and data; use of social media
Available exclusively to NCGS member schools, each cohort includes five conversation topics. A registration fee of $250 is required by each participant. Space is limited with preference given to new, first-time participants who can commit to joining every session within a cohort.
