2022-2023 Schedule and Topics

The Leading Girls’ Schools Headways™ cohort for Heads of School/Presidents/Principals is co-facilitated by Cathy McGehee, ICGS Trustee and Head of School at Foxcroft School and Linda Douglas, ICGS Trustee and Principal at Ruyton Girls’ School.

Unless noted otherwise, all meetings will occur from 4:30-5:30 p.m. ET / 9:30-10:30 p.m. GMT.


This cohort is open to executive leaders (heads, presidents, principals, CEOs) at ICGS member schools who report directly to their school’s governing boards.


October 13, 2022 (4:30-5:40 p.m. ET): Global Education and Global Leadership

What does it mean to lead a girls’ school so that our students become globally minded change-makers?

Topics to consider: Curriculum and program, co-curricular activities, authentic student leadership, enrolling international students, hiring international teachers, faculty/staff professional development, developing school partnerships, international travel and school exchanges, homestays, getting the most from ICGS and the Global Action Research Collaborative (GARC).


November 10, 2022: Strategic Visioning and Change Management

What does it mean to lead a girls’ school during a time of unprecedented change and uncertainty?

Topics to consider: Coming out of the pandemic, how do we get our communities to think big-picture and future-forward?; Strategic planning processes; alternatives to strategic plans; succession planning; capital campaigns; working with consultants; working with boards; climate surveys; traditions vs. innovation; school culture; measuring success.


January 12, 2023: Enterprise Risk Management and Strategic Communications

What are the key areas of strategic communications and risk mitigation for our girls’ schools, and how do we lead our girls’ schools effectively in these areas?

Topics to consider: Crisis planning, communications/public relations/media training; response to local/ national/international events; insurance; cyber security; social media campaigns and responses; reputational risk.


March 2, 2023: School Communities of Belonging

How do we as leaders of girls’ schools engage the power of the many and diverse voices at our schools to uplift our learning communities?

Topics to consider: Diversity/equity/inclusion/justice (DEIJ) work in our schools, curriculum review and audits, governing board work and engagement, faculty/staff professional development, restorative practices, affinity groups, gender identity, parent involvement and engagement.


April 27, 2023: Be Well to Lead Well

How do we take care of ourselves as leaders of girls’ schools in order to lead others effectively and model wellness for our students?

Topics to consider: Leadership self-care, healthy practices, mindfulness, executive coaching, executive destressing, building core admin teams, delegation, restorative breaks, sabbatical, gaining perspective, flexible work arrangements.
