Heads of School/Presidents

2020-2021 Schedule and Topics

Headways for Heads of School and Presidents will run two cohorts in the 2020-2021 school year. Paul Burke, NCGS Board President and Head of School at the Nightingale-Bamford School will facilitate meetings from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Eastern Time on the below dates, and Cathy McGehee, NCGS Trustee and Head of School at Foxcroft School, will facilitate meetings from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the below dates.

Please note that NCGS is mindful of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and will ensure that discussion topics are timely and relevant.


This cohort is open to those who hold the role of Head of School or President at NCGS member schools.


October 29, 2020: School Community

Topics to consider: community values, supportive relationships, connectedness, belonging, distance learning, emotional and physical safety, student orientation models, onboarding new parents and faculty, equity & inclusion, transgender/gender spectrum, non-discrimination


November 12, 2020 (9:00 a.m. EDT) and November 19, 2020 (4:00 p.m. EDT): Be Well to Lead Well

Topics to consider: leadership self-care, healthy practices, executive coaching, building core admin teams, delegation, restorative breaks, gaining perspective, mindfulness, executive destressing, flexibility, sabbaticals


January 14, 2021: Compensation Models and Contracts

Topics to consider: HR issues, salary banding, compensation benchmarking, professional development stipends, negotiation strategy, search committees, hiring and search best practices, employment letters and supplemental materials, contract renewal/nonrenewal, credential authentication, moving expenses


February 18, 2021: Financial Sustainability

Topics to consider: auxiliary programs, strategic planning, financial aid, personnel benefits, fundraising, endowments, enrollment management, deferred maintenance, partnerships, grant writing, planned giving, facility management


April 8, 2021: Community and Traditions

Topics to consider: long-held traditions, modern interpretations of traditions, community gatherings, awards, student speeches, attire, regalia, honor societies, guest speakers, alumnae involvement, faculty/staff leadership, security, celebrations


REGISTRATION

Available exclusively to NCGS member schools, each cohort includes five conversation topics. A registration fee of $250 is required by each participant. Space is limited with preference given to new, first-time participants who can commit to joining every session within a cohort.
