2020-2021 Schedule and Topics

Headways for Admissions/Enrollment Professionals will run two concurrent cohorts that will be facilitated by Liz Schmitt, NCGS Trustee and Chief Enrollment & Student Affairs Officer at Miss Porter’s School, and Jennifer Cullinan, Director of Admissions at St. Catherine’s School. All meetings will occur from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Please note that NCGS is mindful of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and will ensure that discussion topics are timely and relevant. A sample of a past curriculum is listed below for your general reference:

Headways for Admissions/Enrollment Professionals is open to all Admissions/Enrollment and Financial Aid Office positions including but not limited to VPs, Heads, Directors, Assistant Directors, Managers, Associates, Coordinators, etc.

Like our schools, NCGS remains nimble and will iterate to best meet your immediate needs as you adjust your strategies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The following topics, when relevant, will be discussed with a lens regarding the impact of COVID-19:

October 21, 2020: The Admissions Process

Topics to consider: recruitment through retention, streamlining admissions process, paper vs. online applications, composition of admissions committee, must haves vs. wants with application requirements, process systems, standardized application

December 9, 2020: Staffing Models

Topics to consider: reporting structure, size of staff, roles and responsibilities of staff (admissions vs. outside department i.e. coaching, teaching), strategic intercampus communications with other departments

January 13, 2021: Marketing & Communications

Topics to consider: social media, admissions events, number of touches with prospective families, feeder school visits, feeder programs, school fair attendance, print vs. electronic publications, paid advertising, use of video, website content

April 14, 2021: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Topics to consider: gender identity (guidelines for applicants and current students); racial/ethnic diversity; socioeconomic diversity; international students; developing admissions policies; recruiting, selecting, and retaining a diverse student body; DEI professional development

May 12, 2021: Making Data Driven Decisions

Topics to consider: using existing research, types of benchmarking, conducting surveys, survey tools, financial aid vs. full paying families, diversifying student body, retention


Available exclusively to NCGS member schools, each cohort includes five conversation topics. A registration fee of $250 is required by each participant. Space is limited with preference given to new, first-time participants who can commit to joining every session within a cohort.
