Headways for the School Leaders at UK State Girls’ Schools is open to Headteachers and Deputy Headteachers in the UK’s State Girls’ Schools.


November 1, 2022, 10:30-11:30 a.m. GMT: Maintaining emotional resilience throughout the academic year

Topics to consider: focus issues for you and your leadership team; ways to stay present in conversations on focus issues; how to ignore the noise; mindfulness; dynamics of inter and intra personal relationships; ways to connect as leaders and colleagues during the year, support and collaboration.


November 17, 2022, 4:15-5:15 p.m. GMT: Nuanced changes in behaviour management

Topics to consider: understanding the context of our school community and how Covid and other global issues placing pressure on home life, impact behaviour in the school setting; strategies to dissipate volatility; is the distinction between behaviour management and pastoral care responsibility for mental health less defined?; are these complex multilayered issues adding a new dimension to behaviour management?; how have we responded as agile leaders?; are we one step ahead or a few steps behind this shift?; ways to stay, at least on track


January 20, 2023, 10:30-11:30 a.m. GMT: Race, identity and school leadership

Topics to consider: organisational structures and processes: what do they mean for black children in the context of your setting?; ethical leadership and raising attainment of black caribbean students, consistently the lowest performing of black FSM ethnic groups


March 23, 2023, 4:15-5:15 p.m. GMT: Developing creativity and nurturing passion for lifelong learning

Topics to consider: orchestrating the environment; encouraging risk taking; role models beyond token representation; barriers for girls and how we can overcome these


June 6, 2023, 10:30-11:30 a.m. BST: Personal agency and the ability to act as agents of change

Topics to consider: supporting students to develop personal agency: successful initiatives in your context; ways to promote self-efficacy and self esteem: evaluating success in those goals; encouraging and celebrating service to the community; leadership opportunities for students; recognising each individual as a leader of their own learning


July 12, 2023, 4:15-5:15 p.m. BST: Reflection on the past year, looking forward

Topics to consider: leadership learning from this academic year; finding the best fit for my school and its leadership on the ICGS global platform; contextual priorities for next year; looking further ahead
