Seattle Girls' School - The Global Connection

At Seattle Girls' School, an economics program is fully integrated into school curriculum. Students learn personal finance, local and city issues, and ultimately economics as it connects to global issues. Students at SGS solve many problems using these concepts involving tax, appreciation, depreciation, and other basic financial concepts. They also prepare an extensive budget for their expedition to Mt. St. Helens, compare telephone and internet plans (numerically, algebraically and graphically), and they learn about the history and mechanics of federal income tax. Financial Literacy, and the math involved are weaved throughout the integrated curriculum.

Seattle Girls' School: Award-Winning Educator

Wendy Ewbanks, a Seattle Girls' School teacher, has received the World Affair's Council 2004 World Educator Award.  This award recognizes one teacher each year who demonstrates leadership in connecting students to the world.  In the 7th grade, Wendy linked the teaching team together to lead the "We Can Do it!  Equipping Future Leaders Institute" at which 7th graders learned from a diverse and accomplished group of leaders.
