Student-Run Foundation at C.S.H.
Convent of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic independent college preparatory school for girls in grades PreSchool to Grade 12, and a member of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States, has established a student-run foundation, the Barat Foundation, to further expand the education of students on philanthropy, community service and money management. The Foundation was established through the money-raising efforts of a Sacred Heart parent, who wanted students to "live and learn the power of charity and compassion and appreciate the impact it will have on their personal lives."
The student core of the Barat Foundation Board was formed after an open invitation to all students in the Upper School. Thirteen students across the four high school grades were selected from among the many responses. The student group met twice weekly from this past January through June. They chose a name for the Foundation and have written a mission statement, grant distribution guidelines and timeline, and are completing the by-laws. The name Barat foundation was chosen to continue the tradition of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, the foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart, who devoted her life to the education and development of children.
