In many ways, the students at Nergui Nerendoo's school in Mongolia aren't that different from the ones she met Wednesday at San Anselmo's San Domenico School. During a two-day visit to Marin's Headlands Institute, the Mongolian educators learned low-tech methods of determining water quality, such as evaluating the health of the insects and other creatures that live in rivers. To help themselves - and their students - better understand the problem, the Mongolian educators visited the Yosemite Valley, where the environment is still recovering from mining techniques used during the California Gold Rush. At San Domenico School, the visiting teachers studied the school's sustainability program, established in 1994 through a Marin Community Foundation grant.
