The National Coalition of Girls' Schools

Opportunity to Attend the Student Leadership Conference in Perth, Australia

Deadline to Apply is Oct. 15

09/10/2007- NCGS Announcement

We are currently seeking nominations from NCGS Member Schools to represent NCGS at the Student Leadership Conference presented by our International Affiliate, the Alliance of Girls Schools (Australasia) in Perth, Australia, from January 16-20, 2008.

Each year, the Alliance generously invites two NCGS students to the event, providing all registration fees plus accomodations at the conference site where attendees are housed. (Penhros College is hosting the event this year.) NCGS schools chosen to send delegates are responsible for transportation. A home stay is an option before or after the conference.

To qualify for consideration, a student should be in her junior year at an NCGS Member School, exhibit leadership qualities, and model a commitment to global citizenship. Only one student can be nominated from each NCGS Member School. The competition is stiff, the opportunity life-changing!

About the Conference

The 2008 Student Leadership Conference will take the form of a multilayered journey of self exploration. Through initiative activities and challenges, performances and creative work, involving buddies, group work and individual reflection, the girls will look at leadership from an emotional, social and intellectual perspective.

The conference program will include formal presentations, outdoor challenges, workshop activities and keynote speakers. Reflection and journal writing will be an integral part of the program and delegates will have the chance to nominate and address issues of special concern to them. As well, there will be opportunities for leisure activities and for delegates to participate in discussions with former school leaders and with current leaders in the adult world. There will also be a formal conference dinner. Additional details are available at the Alliance website, www.agsa.org.au.

Who can apply?

MCGS Member School students in 11th grade are eligible to apply provided they have a satisfactory school record. Each Member School may nominate only one potential Student Ambassador.

We are looking for positive, independent, flexible and confident young women who will make excellent representatives of their school and of NCGS and will be able to contribute to and participate in all aspects of the program.
