Middle School Confidential

06/16/2008

Peer Approval Addiction can cause girls to lose sight of what's right. In doing whatever it takes to gain popularity, some girls make thoughtless choices that hurt themselves and others. Annie Fox's new book series Middle School Confidential (Free Spirit) can help students make choices that reflect who they really are.  Each book is a unique blend of full-color graphic novel and smart-talk life skills. By following the challenges of 6 teen characters, readers learn how to take a stand against letting others define them.

Annie Fox delivers advice with straightforward honesty and with a compassionate understanding of circumstances and personalities.  She thinks with, but does not speak down to, her readers.  The book is playfully designed in a format that fully engages the reader with its mix of cartoon conversations, advice columns, teenage voices, and resources.  The underlying message?  No one's perfect.

In addition to her book series, Annie Fox offers "Middle School Confidential Workshops for Girls." These seminars challenge the way girls think about themselves and their peers, while encouraging more respectful and inclusive behavior at school and among friends.  Her workshops for parents and teachers provide an understanding of adolescent brain function and insight into how a girl's self-perceptions can work against her self-confidence. She helps adults give students what they need for healthy social/emotional development in middle school and beyond.
