NCGS Co-Executive Director Tours South Africa Schools

04/28/2008

Meg MoultonMeg Milne Moulton, NCGS Co-Executive Director, recently accompanied Chatham Hall School on their service trip to Cape Town South Africa for two weeks.  Dr.Gary Fountain, Rector, led the delegation alongside a sampling of faculty, alumnae and students.

"It was an eye-opening, soul-stretching experience for everyone," Ms. Moulton said.  "South Africa is a country of contrasts -- of incredible natural beauty and township rags, of hope and hopelessness,of  rich and poor, of possibility and challenge."

A week was spent working at a township primary school (a new library was one outcome) and the next week occupied by adding to a community garden that helps support individuals, a school, the greater community.

Ms. Moulton met with girls' schools in Cape Town and enjoyed a dinner with heads of girls' public schools. A trip to Robben Island, a top tip in the Indian Ocean, and standing on the Cape of Good Hope were memorable side trips.
