FYI, Members: Girls Global Leadership Conference in South Africa

12/14/2007

Alterra Global Initiatives has organized a global citizenship conference in South Africa June 16-26, 2008, designed to enhance a young woman's capacity to think and act globally -- to be challenged about issues relating to equality, poverty, the environment, the role of woman as change agents.

School teams of students, teachers, administrators, alumnae and school trustees are invited to attend. The ten-day trip will offer a variety of teachable moments -- weaving together human rights symposia, dialogues with government officials about South African education, topical discussions, community service, day trips to historic sites.  There will opportunities to explore school partnerships and interactions with South African schools.

Alterra has proven experience in leading customized conferences in South Africa, Brazil, China, and India.  They have led several NAIS trips and have organized trips for and had participating staff from member schools including:  Chatham Hall, St. Timothy, Marlborough School, Agnes Irwin, Springside, Hamlin, and St. Catherine's.
