Supervises: Social-Emotional Clinicians, Learning Specialists, Nurses and IU Reading Specialist
Job Purpose: To foster the intellectual and personal growth of all students, Pre-K through 12, and be a resource for parents, teachers and clinical support staff.
Essential Job Functions:
• To supervise the Student Support Services team and assign caseloads to clinicians.
• To collaborate with teachers and learning specialists in implementation of learning plans.
• To run weekly team meetings in which cases are discussed and treatments and options/plans are suggested and decided upon and ongoing cases are tracked.
• To ensure effective crisis intervention in cases where the Student Support Services team is involved.
• To advise teachers and parents on student issues relating to social/emotional development and academic challenges in collaboration with team members as appropriate.
• To attend weekly meetings with each Division Director for the purpose of ensuring consistent high quality service to students in all divisions.
• To attend the weekly "kid meeting" in Upper School and address any issues coming out of that meeting.
• When necessary, to meet with students one-on-one or in small groups.
• To evaluate the job performance of each member of the Student Support Services team and hire new members of this team whenever needed.
• When necessary, to meet with staff one-on-one for supportive counseling.
• To attend parent meetings, as appropriate, and at times facilitate parent meetings at the request of faculty, administration and/or parents.
• To coordinate the non-academic curriculum in Lower School (Let's Care), Middle School (Courage to be Me, Inside/Outside) and Upper School (Transitions).
• To teach Transitions, a guidance course in the 9th grade.
• To develop and implement programs as identified in conjunction with Division Directors.
• To oversee and coordinate parent educational programs.
• To attend grade level meetings in Middle and Upper School as needed.
• To keep up to date on latest research on teaching, learning disabilities and brain function and where appropriate, bring this new information to the attention of Division Directors and teachers, particularly what is most pertinent for girls.
• To serve as the liaison for the Schools Attuned organization and co-facilitate its core course on our campus, as well as host the practicum portion of the course.
• To serve on the following committees: Administrative and Speakers'.
• To network with similarly oriented professionals in other independent schools and discuss issues of programming through meetings which from time to time will be hosted at The Agnes Irwin School.
• To work with Middle & Upper School Division Directors on the Advising Program.
Qualifications:
• Master's Degree in Educational and/or Psychological field.
• Successful experience in management of a team of professionals.
• Demonstrated expertise in the fields of learning differences, social-emotional developmental issues, classroom teaching and management.
• Ability to work as a contributing member of a team in an educational environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to include being cooperative and congenial and able to communicate effectively with students, teachers and parents.
• Proficiency with use of computer technology, office and audio-visual equipment as they pertain to the essential functions of this position.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently accomplish program goals in an agreed upon time frame.
• Ability to complete multiple tasks with minimal supervision and work in an environment subject to interruptions.
• Outstanding communication skills to include the ability to use clear, concise, and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with students, parents, peers, administration and the larger community,
• Commitment to the values of single gender education for women and young girls and a positive regard for young people.
• Leadership style that is open to and seeks out input and feedback from the expertise of staff members; ability to be flexible yet able to demonstrate appropriate assertiveness in conflict situations.
• Interest in developing a research program related to proactive topics for healthful, holistic development of girls.
Physical Demands of this Job:
• Adequate physical mobility, dexterity, strength, and endurance to actively supervise and lead lower, middle and upper school students and be responsible for their physical safety during all school-related activities, including evacuations and other emergency response procedures.
