A New Leadership Era for NCGS
12/17/2007- NCGS News
Since its founding in 1991, The National Coalition of Girls' Schools has thrived under the leadership of its Co-Executive Directors, Whitney Ransome and Meg Milne Moulton. Indeed, in that time, single-sex education for girls has experienced a true renaissance, and today girls' schools are widely praised -- and often imitated -- for setting the standard in educational excellence.
Now Whitty has announced her plans to retire in mid-2008, entrusting the leadership to Meg who will serve as sole Executive Director until 2009, when she will retire as well. Pat Hayot, President of the NCGS Board of Trustees and Head of The Chapin School, issued the following statement to the membership:
Dear Colleagues,
As we look back on the 16 years since the founding of The National Coalition of Girls' Schools, all must be proud of what's been accomplished on behalf of our community. It is therefore with a mixture of pride and sadness that we announce coming changes in leadership for our organization.
Whitney Ransome has informed the Board that she would like to step down from the Co-Executive Director position in mid-2008 to pursue opportunities closer to Baltimore, where she lives. At that time Meg Milne Moulton, currently Co-Executive Director, will assume the responsibilities of sole Executive Director through June of 2009. Meg will work closely with the NCGS Board of Trustees during this period to identify a successor and ensure a smooth transition of leadership in 2009.
The Board of Trustees has formed a Transition Committee chaired by Ann Pollina, Head of Westover School and NCGS Board Vice President. The committee members are: Trudy Hall, Head of Emma Willard School and NCGS Board Treasurer; Kay Cowan, Head of Nashoba Brooks School and NCGS Board Trustee; Randy Tucker, Head of Girls' Preparatory School and NCGS Board Trustee; and Margaret Broad, Head of St. Margaret's School and past NCGS Board President. I have every confidence that this seasoned team of experienced professionals will guide us well as we identify continuing wise, creative administration of NCGS.
We have benefited enormously from the remarkable leadership Meg and Whitty have exhibited since NCGS' founding in 1991. Together, they have blazed the way to what can only be described as a true renaissance in single-sex education for girls, and our Member Schools are the beneficiaries of their vision, entrepreneurial spirit, and deep commitment. Their powerful partnership has created a Coalition unlike any other: nimble, strong and enterprising. NCGS is exceptionally well-positioned to begin a new era.
In the months ahead we will be sharing more details about the evolving changes at NCGS. On behalf of the entire NCGS Board of Trustees, thank you for your continued support of and belief in our work.
