Girls, Sports & Wellness
Participation in sports can yield a lifetime of benefits for girls and
young women. Skills learned now -- leadership, teamwork, setting goals
- will last a lifetime, whether a girl goes on to become a pro athlete,
parent, scientist, business executive or community leader. And healthy habits -- physical as well as mental -- learned now will be healthy habits that last. That's why NCGS and its Member Schools place a premium on sports, fitness and wellness for girls and young woman: it's all an essential part of a top-flight education!

Model Curriculum: The Role of Sports in the Lives of Girls
Whether as educators or parents, we all want young people to be physically fit. But at NCGS Member Schools, fitness is only the beginning. Our schools are pioneers in making athletics part-and -arcel of the educational experience -- to both teach and reinforce skills that will empower girls and young women no matter where life's journey takes them.

We first met Jane Gottesman, the project's creator, in 1998, when she asked to attend our Annual Conference, held that year in California. She had an idea... and my, how that idea has grown!
