NCGS Membership Guidelines
The NCGS Board of Trustees has approved the following membership categories:
Member
A fully qualified member enjoys the rights and privileges of NCGS membership as defined in the by-laws. Qualified members vote at the annual business meeting, can serve on the Board and can avail themselves of public relations counsel.
Members are assessed dues as determined by the Board. Dues for the 2010/2011
membership year (starting July 1, 2010) are on a per student enrolled basis ($12.40) with a minimum payment of $1,795 and a maximum payment of $6,757. A school with only an elementary and/or middle school division with an enrollment of less than 100 students will be assessed $825.
Member schools must satisfy the following requirements:
- Incorporated as a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization by the IRS
- Have non-discriminatory admission and employment practices and publish that policy
- Enroll only girls in a school division
- Have a documented girl-focused mission
- Indicate the availability of financial aid
- Located in the U.S. or its territories
- Governed by an independent, self-perpetuating board
- Accredited by a regional/state organization
Associate Member
A qualified associate member benefits from Coalition services with the exception of public relations counsel,the opportunity to vote at the annual business meeting and to serve on the Board. This membership category will include only public schools. Associate members are not assessed an annual fee, but are invited to make an annual suggested contribution of $500. Associate Member schools must satisfy the following membership requirements:
- Exist as a public school
- Have non-discriminatory admission and employment practices and publish that policy
- Enroll only girls in a school division
- Have a documented girl-focused mission
- Located in the U.S. or its territories
- Accredited by a regional, state, national or organization
Affiliate Associations
A qualified affiliate association is an international association of girls' schools. Affiliate associations:
- Receive regular mailings from NCGS (one per organization),
- Are listed in NCGS publications and Web page,
- Participate in the NCGS Annual Conference and other NCGS-sponsored events at the membership rate; schools that are members of the affiliate association may also participate in the NCGS Annual Conference and other NCGS-sponsored events at the membership rate
Affiliate associations are non-voting, may not serve on the Board and do not receive public relations counsel. Additional copies of publications and requests for services will be invoiced. Affiliate association status is granted on a reciprocal basis.
A qualified affiliate association must meet the following requirements:
- Located outside the United States and its territories
- Have non-discriminatory admission and employment practices and publish that policy
- Enroll only girls in a school division
- Support educational programs of substance with a focus on girls
Schools that are members of an NCGS affiliate association may apply to become Individual International Members, as described below.
Individual International Member
A qualified Individual International Member school enjoys all the privileges of full membership with the exception of the opportunity to vote at the annual business meeting and to serve on the Board. International member schools receive regular mailings and e-mailed newsletters from NCGS, are listed in NCGS publications and on the NCGS Web page where they have access to the member-only resource areas which include PR tips, press releases, and talking points. They participate in the Annual Conference and other Coalition sponsored events (at the membership rate). NCGS publications are available at the member rate. Yearly membership fee is $775. A qualified International Member must meet the following requirements:
- Located outside the United States
- Have non-discriminatory admission and employment practices and publish that policy
- May be an Independent school or Public school and enroll only girls in a school division
- Support educational programs of substance with a focus on girls
- Indicate the availability of financial aid
- Governed by an independent, self-perpetuating board
- Accredited by a regional, state or national organization
Provisional Member
A qualified provisional member is a newly established girls' school. Schools can remain in this category for a period of five years. Provisional members enjoy all the privileges of membership with the exception of the opportunity to vote at the annual business meeting and to serve on the Board. It is expected that at the end of the five-year provisional period, schools in this membership category will meet all the requirements for full membership and be assessed accordingly (per student with a minimum and maximum dues payment). The five-year dues assessment for schools with high school divisions progresses as follows:
- Year 1 - $100
- Year 2 - $250
- Year 3 - $500
- Year 4 - $750
- Year 5 - $1,200
In Year 6, these schools will assume the dues of a fully qualified member at $12.15 per girl enrolled, with a minimum payment of $1760 and a maximum payment of $6,625.
A provisional school with only an elementary and/or middle school division with an enrollment of less than 100 students will be assessed $800 after five years with progressive payments as follow:
- Year 1 - $50
- Year 2 - $100
- Year 3 - $200
- Year 4 - $350
- Year 5 - $500
In Year 6, these schools will pay an annual assessment of $800.
A qualified provisional member must meet the following requirements:
- Enroll only girls in a school division
- Have a documented girl-focused mission and curriculum
- Be in the process or be acknowledged as a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization by the IRS
- Have a statement that reflects non-discrimination in current/future admission and employment practices
- Submit financial planning documents
- Indicate the availability of financial aid
- Be located in the U.S. or its territories
- Indicate governance by an independent, self-perpetuating board
- Be in the process of seeking accreditation by a regional/state organization
