International Conference on Educating Girls
Presented by NCGS and The Girls' Schools Association UK
In November 2005, our International Affiliate The Girls' Schools' Association (UK) and The National Coalition of Girls' Schools organized a first-ever International Conference on Educating Girls. More than 250 educators, experts and advocates from half a dozen countries gathered in London for the event, exchanging ideas on best practices, discussing collaborative projects, and developing strategies that equip girls to be leaders, doers, contributors, and world citizens.
Each speaker was impressive in her own accomplishments as a leader, each insightful as she shared her vision of the future for girls. Speakers reflected on the opportunities and challenges of educating young women for our 'flat,' globally connected, and fast-paced world of tomorrow, grouped around four key themes:
- Leadership and global citizenship
- Finance, business and philanthropy
- Science and technology
- Health and well-being
In the pages that follow, you will find summaries of the presentations, sample programs, as well as ideas and contact information for further sharing.
And the work of the Conference will go on. Discussions begun in London will continue at the NCGS Annual Conference, June 26-29, 2007 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Our two organizations will continue to lead the effort to identify educational best practices for girls, cultivate learning opportunities/connections internationally, and build a resource bank that will serve as a global resource for educators of girls.
