Affording a Girls' School
Financial aid has been increasing steadily at Coalition member schools. In fact, for the 2003/2004 school year, the latest period for which figures are available, 7,400 girls received grants based on financial need. That's roughly 35% of the total number of students attending our boarding schools, 23% attending day schools.
What does this mean in dollars-and-cents terms? In all, our members distributed $83 million in need-based grants. The average grant was $15,603 at boarding schools and $9,000 at day schools.
Why do they do it? Why do our member schools give so much? Because together we recognize the importance of opportunity. We know that all girls deserve a chance to excel, and that an excellent education is the key to achievement.
So, parents, please feel free to discuss financial aid options with admissions staff when you first inquire about applying to single-sex school for girls. NCGS member schools value diversity among students and faculty alike, and make a priority of ensuring opportunities for the children of all families.
